“I was given a Kindle Fire from a friend who has about 150 books on it. It is registered in her name but she says I can transfer ownership to my Kindle Fire. Is that right? Thanks,”

I'd be wary of changing registration to your name if you want the books on the Kindle Fire. Once the registration is changed out of your friend's name, everything on the Kindle will be lost.
