Works with 4K with no problem. Not sure if it's HDR, but my TV isn't so it didn't matter.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There are no official press releases from Amazon as of yet. Most tech geeks believe rumblings of Amazon planning to release a new mid-tier device to sale alongside their Fire TV and Fire TV Stick models. The new mid-tier device would provide 4K HDR capabilities, with other hardware specs falling somewhere in-between those of the other two models. Again, there are no official announcements from Amazon but you can find more information about the potential mid-tier device here: http://www.aftvnews.com/exclusive-amazon-to-release-new-mid-tier-fire-tv-model-with-4k-hdr-and-android-7/

This Fire TV model does not have HDR capability, while most new TVs have that feature. It makes as much, or more, of a positive difference to the picture, than the higher resolution. The next model of Fire TV will almost certainly have HDR capability built in. If you're still looking to buy something now, instead of waiting, Check out the new Roku TV boxes. The Premiere +, and the Ultra, both have HDR. I own both the Fire TV and the Roku Premiere +. The Roku is used with my 4K TV, and the Fire TV is now used with one of my 1080p TVs.
