You need a amazon login which is free. Amazon.com login works. Internet of course. And paid subscriptions Hulu Netflix etc. Some shows and movies are free but limited. If you have amazon prime thats better than Netflix. Lots of free game apps also.

Questions like what is your Amazon account logon, do you want wireless or wired, etc. Most of the basic apps you would want are already loaded (like your cell phone was when you got it). You can go and get other Free Apps. (like you do on your cell phone). My house is setup with wired CAT5 so I setup mine up as wired (faster) and have zero buffering issues. I have also used the fire stick, wifi only, and had no buffering issues even on 1080P streaming, but I have a very good wireless router. My internet service is Verizon but I do not have the high speed service. The Fire TV unit is fast when moving thru menus. You can also load non Amazon apps (see youtube for help).
