“This model is the 2015 version. Is Amazon is coming out with a new release of Fire TV in 2017? They recently released Amazon Fire Stick I believe 2017. Like Smartphones I hate to buy one only to have it go obsolete in the next month. Thanks.”

New generation Fire sticks and boxes are expected out in 2017.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.From what I have read the new model will not be as powerful as this older second generation model. I just bought one for my brother in law. The second generation 4k model is instantaneous in bringing up apps and probably the best of it's kind. The third generation Fire TV is designed to compete with the Chromecast with lower specs. The model I have is about as good as it gets at this point and does everything I need.
