Your basement and garage may be too far away from your router to get a good signal, you could look at better router options or a hard line (best method). I used to have issues with some of my smart home tech, but fixed 99% of them by upgrading my router. I'm recommending a router with a DST adapter. That allows you to have a remote (i.e. basement or garage) access to a hard line. It's a very cool setup. The Amazon Cube is really only limited by the tools you are connecting it through. Hope you get it working.
