an hdmi splitter would NOT work, you would need an HDMI switch. you would then plug your devices into the switch and the switch into the TV.

You want to switch between multiple devices being sent to 1 TV. Also, check the back of your DVR. It may have additional HDMI inputs. In that case you would plug the Fire TV into the DVR box and use inputs on the DVR remote.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.A splitter wouldn't be a good idea here as it'd be constantly awake and trying to push data through the HDMI. You could just remove whatever device is using the HDMI port and pop this in when you want to use it - that's what I do.
