You just plug into your TV, switch the input, and you're good to go. It will only work in the TV it's plugged into, but you can move it easily from TV to TV

You would need a stick for every tv or monitor unless you want to just remove it from the HDMI port and insert it to another device. That's what we do because we rarely watch tv in anywhere else. It's like a little flash drive with a HDMI END instead of USB.
