Once you have the Kindle you will have an option to have 3 months free of Kindle unlimited which I suggest to getting because even if you don't want to keep it you can just cancel it and instead purchase your digital books.

Hello Vicreader, You will need an Amazon Account to register and setup the Kindle. You do not however need to have an Amazon Prime Subscription. You will still be able to purchase books through Amazon as well as access books in Kindle Formats from some local libraries. Have a Great Day!
