Once it slows down it’s better to upgrade. As long as you are subscribed to Kindle the books will transfer. If you have other books from other places you’ll need to use an app like Calibre to transfer your books to your laptop then transfer the books to your new Kindle.

While I can't really speak to whether or not you can revitalize your current Kindle, I can assure that you anything you purchased from the Kindle Store is saved to your Amazon account and will be available to redownload on any new Kindle that you purchase. An easy way to make sure everything is available, that doesn't require spending any money, is to install the free Kindle app on a smartphone or tablet. From there, you'll be able to check your library and verify that everything you're interested in is still available to download. I hope that helps, have a great rest of your day!
