Hi sr97355! The Kindle Oasis E-Reader has built in cellular which allows for it to connect to a cellular tower on its own without the use of a hot spot device. This is limited to availability of a 3G connection though, which is not available in all locations. You can also use your cell phone as a hot spot or any other WIFI connection for this Kindle as well. Thanks for your question, have a great day!
