Yes. The Kindle Oasis has a lit screen that allows for reading in a darkened room. You can disable the ambient light sensor and increase the screen light to your desire. Make sure you update the firmware.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The screen is lighted, but is not backlit like a computer screen. You don’t want it to be bright—that would cause eye strain and fatigue. I bought the Oasis because I have multiple eye problems and find it easier to read larger print. I like the larger screen because I don’t have to turn pages quite so often. My Oasis gets really bright if I turn it all the way up, but I don’t like it bright. Have your mother try it to see if she likes it. If she thinks it isn’t bright enough, take it back to the store and have them check to see if it is defective.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The Oasis is Not backlit. It's an e-reader, so the lights shine onto the top of it. The Kindle Fires are backlit, like a tablet or a tv.
