The Kindle Paperwhite 2 has the Kindle logo below the screen in white and the Paperwhite 3 is in piano black. The other way to verify which version you have in look at the fonts available while reading a book. The new Paperwhite 3 has a new font named Bookerly that was specifically designed for the new 300 ppi display. I hope this helps.
