Hello MKM, The Kindle Paperwhite Kids does not have a automatically adjusting light sensor like the Kindle Paperwhite Signature does. The Paperwhite Kids does offer Adjustable Light as well as Dark Mode for anywhere, anytime reading. The Kindle Paperwhite Kids does also offer an improved battery life from the Kindle Kids improving from 6 hours to now 10 hours, as well as being IPX8 Waterproof Certified. Have a great day!
