Yes, the clearstream 2Max HDTV antenna can be used indoors without mounting bars. I purchased 2, one for living room and bedroom and works great!!

For outdoor mounting (recommended), you can mount to almost any pole, but should be at least 1/2" in diameter. It can be mounted sideways if you use the wall mounting option. You'll have to move it to different locations to find the best signal.

There is an indoor base stand included in the box. The antenna stands upright 18". We do not recommend using the antenna on it's side because the TV signals coming off the towers is in a horizontal polarity and our antennas are tuned to receive the signals in a horizontal pattern. The mounting hardware that is included in the box is adjustable - meaning there is a ubolt and two brackets that clamp down onto a mast at various diameters, so yes the ClearStream 2MAX can be installed on a existing mast.
