I work for a cable company and have a low voltage license. It would be a best practice to ground this, but no you don't have to.

Then I connected the splitter to the house ground with a 8 awg solid copper wire just for some protection because I'd hate to fry 3 or 4 hdtvs.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Not if you install it on metal piping as I did, but on the roof it may be a good idea to run some sort of ground. I also connect the coax and components to a monster cable power center, as I do with all my electronic entertainment components.
