The unit can only tune channels that it picks up with the antenna, the wifi connection and app integrations are just how you watch it. If you don't have local channels on other devices, this will be no different. Whatever you do have you could watch on your mobile devices, but it's not going to change your reception or your broadcast area, no.

But you may need to put your antenna outside on the roof on a mast or up in an attic to get the signal. the higher the better. TVfool.com is more technical but is a little better than antennaweb at predicting signal reception.
