“How wide is just the stand that the monitor sits on? I need to know because I place the stand of the monitor on top of my desktop computer. I'm concerned the stand is too wide and will fall off the desktop mini-tower.”

It's too wide to sit on top of a desktop. It's maybe about 10-12 inches wide.
