This monitor has 2 inputs, one HDMI and a second VGA, you have to use either the right cable, VGA or HDMI or Adapter, Mini Display Port to VGA or HDMI, Display Port or DVI.

I wish AOC would STOP providing HDMI cable's with their monitors because it creates tooooooooooo much confusion for the average non-techie computer user. Read all 60-some questions for this monitor!! The VAST majority of them have to do with people trying to connect this monitor to an older laptop / tower that DOES NOT have HDMI output(s). You NEED to use a VGA cable to connect YOUR Dell laptop to THIS monitor - it's the blue connector, see attached pix. I have a Dell laptop, that's how I connected it to my AOC i2367F 23'' IPS Wide Screen Monitor - http://us.aoc.com/en/products/i2367f/support
