A:Answer The Cellular option provides two things in an iPad. Primarily, it provides for the ability to subscribe to cellular data from one of many cellular companies. Once subscribed (which costs money), you are able to connect to the internet anytime you are in that cellular company’s service area. This is valuable for where you want to connect and do not have a WiFi option. The second thing the Cellular option provides in an iPad is GPS, which is required for reliable and precise location. Without the Cellular option, the iPad uses nearby WiFi and Bluetooth signals to try and identify its location. If none of those are nearby, the iPad has absolutely no idea where it is at (e.g. for mapping apps). Even if there are nearby WiFi and/or Bluetooth signals, they may not provide enough information to determine the location of the iPad, and when they do provide enough info, the location is not very precise (within a 100 yards, typically).
