It’s usuallt pictures and videos that chew up the space on these. Both Google and Apple both offer cloud storage for pics and videos. Google’s is free and unlimited. Apple offers storage for a minimal monthly fee, which you can purchase at any time. Also, Amazon offers unlimited photo and video storage for Amazon Prime members. Alternatively, you can buy an external storage device for pretty cheap.

I have an Apple Music subscription on my iPad, which gives me access to a vast library of streaming music, as well as online storage for the music I own in my iTunes library. Any time I have internet access, I can stream songs from my library or Apple Music without using storage on my iPad. I can also choose to download songs to the iPad’s storage from Apple Music or my library if I want them to be available offline, but of course that takes space.
