“So what is the difference between the Verizon version and the unlocked version besides $200 in price. I thought that all iPads were unlocked. I am currently with Verizon now but may not always be with them so just curious as to what the benefit is.”

It is unclear what unlocked model you are talking about. However, Verizon uses CDMA models and other networks use GSM, so if you might switch from Verizon you would want a universally unlocked model.
