If you are clicking on your photo and then the square with a line through at the top right of the screen, then select the mail icon after the pop-up and addressing it to the recipient you shouldn’t be having a problem.

If you use the built in email client, just open photos and select the photos you want to send. Then choose the button that looks like a little square with an arrow pointing up and choose mail. Should be straight forward from there.

Next, pick the photo you wish to email and click share. Choose the email app. you wish to use. You may need to set up an email app on the device if you haven't already done so. Then check for updates to that app and reboot it. Hope that helps. If it doesn't, backup your device to the cloud. Then delete the app and reinstall it. Then reboot it.
