“is it possible to transfer information from old ipad to new?”

Yes if you're backed up to the iCloud or iTunes you can restore from there and everything will transfer over to your new one

I used the cloud and it loaded everything from my old IPad, but I think that connecting it to your ITunes on you computer or lap top will accomplish the same thing.

Yes. You can restore from the cloud or a computer with iTunes where your previous iPad was synced. An sd memory card adapter is also available.
