Please try again later.No carrier is required unless you buy from one, for example if you buy from at&t or Verizon, they may sell the ipad for 10 dollars for a month, and you may have to do a 2 year or more contract, but since they want their money back for selling the ipad kind of cheaper, they will get you into buying a carrier plan, that includes 4g Lte for 50 dollars or more, plus the 10 you pay, so you will end paying 60 dollars for a month, and assuming you do a 2 year contract, you end up paying 1440, not including tax, but if you want to have internet on the go, then you will need to have a carrier, if you can't connect to different hotspots on the go, hopefully this answers your question.
