You're better off selling the iPad mini on eBay or another site like that, then using that money to buy your new iPad. Trade-in values are VERY low compared to what you'll get on the open market.

Make sure you take it out of the case and wipe it down thoroughly. If you have a screen protector like a Zagg, take it off last. Your trade in will look like new. If you intend to transfer the data, you may wish to purchase your new one and install your back up prior to resetting your old device and wiping all of the data. This will save you a headache if there is an issue with the backup. You will still be able to trade in your old device. They will give you credit.
