I got a message in printer's window that my iPhone is an unknown device and I had to install some software on my computer. It thinks my iPhone is a storage device. I think my printer can't handle a direct connection to the iPhone, although it was able to start charging the iPhone. Printing via WiFi, is the easiest way to go. If you still want a hard wired connection to your printer, you're going to need to google your printer and ask the question. You may find WiFi is the only answer to your question, and the simplest solution.
