• This iPad will need it's own sim card in order to work independently. If your phone allow hot spot the it will connect via WiFi. ATT and Verizon in the US allow you to add an data device for a minimal monthly fee other might do the same.

• You can piggyback data off your phone if it has a hotspot function/plan. Otherwise, you can just order a new data line from whatever carrier you use... I have an AT&T data line for about $20 monthly.
