“I have the newest 12.9 ipad. What type of adapter is needed to earbuds? or does it have to be wireless?”

If you are trying to use regular 3.5 mm corded headphones, you need the usb-c to 3.5 mm adapter.

Try looking for USB-C to Lightning port adapters in gearbest or some other website. Wireless connectivity is definitely an option.

Apple makes special adapters for the usb type c cables, look for usb-c to 3.5mm audio jacks.

I use the Bluetooth Samsung Galaxy buds which work great. No place to plug in wired headphones.

The iPad Pro is adaptable To the new iPods that are wireless. Bluetooth is the way to go I am not aware of a adapter for your charging port to plug into the iPad Pro.
