There is an onscreen keyboard. But I much prefer having a separate keyboard that also provides a protective case for the iPad Air 4. There are very few out there to choose from. I hated the two Apple products. I also tried the Logitech and it provided no protection and a slow keyboard. The one I like is made by Typecase and is called a Flexible Touch keyboard for the iPad Air 4. It takes a little bit of set-up, has a trackpad that can be used or not, and has wonderful backlit keys. This is the one you want — with GREAT protection for the iPad Air 4 and a screen that twists into 7 positions. The best one out there!
