“What does it mean when an iPad is “unlocked”? Is it possible to just purchase and iPad with a cellular card in it reguardless of the provider without subscribing for a plan so the person receiving the gift can set up their plan at a later date?”

I haven’t heard the term unlocked when referring the the Pro model iPad’s but there are no provider dedicated sim’s. You select your provider during setup. Owners of previous iPhones and iPads will certainly appreciate the fast and very easy setup of your new device. It clones your previous model from backup including the existing cellular information and cell number.

An unlocked iPad means that there is no card in it. You get the card from the cellular provider that you choose, and there is no charge for the card.

Yes. We purchased the iPad and bought the SIM card separately.

Yes its possible. I got mine unlocked with a celllular, but it has no SIM card with it.
