It will work with all iPhones that have a lightning port, you won’t be able to see the benifits of fast charging unless you have an iPhone 8, x or XS and larger watt charger.

Yes it will work for the iPhone 5 or any other apple device that supports a lightening cable it just won’t work with the regular power brick u have to have the MacBook adapter for this cord to work

The lightning end will plug into her iPhone 5 but you would need a wall plug or computer that is USB-C (the normal wall plug that came with the phone would not work with USB-C as it is USB-A which is rectangular).

It will charge the iPhone but, it will not fast charge her iPhone 5. Meaning it won’t charge it to 100% within 45 minutes like it supposed it’ll be just like a regular charger.

Hey Buck. Yup. It will also work for data as well as it is backwards compatible for all USB standards. USB-C is USB3 standard now. Your wife’s phone works on the USB2 standard most likely so when doing any transfers it won’t work at the same USB3 standard speed.

According to Apple Support forums, no it will not fast charge a device older than a 6s. Reality might be different. Obviously with a fast charger, you must mindfully charge the device and not leave it on the charger overnight. Check Apple support forums for more information.

I doubt it, i think only the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, X, XS, XR, and XS Max use fast charging. It should work theoretically if you want it just normally charging but that’s a waste of $

Yes, it will charge the phone (normal speed) and it will allow the phone to sync to the computer (if your computer has a USB-C port). It WILL NOT enable fast charging on the 5, as the 5 did not have the fast charging circuitry built into it.

No, this is for the newer iPhones that have a USB-C plug. The iPhone 5uses a lightening cable for charging.
