I, too, have had this problem, and the “Home”App is worthless! What I did was turn off ALL my devices, iPhone as well as ALL iPads and try again. Let the ONLY device you are using connect to the internet—not just cell service—and see if that works.

Additionally, ensure that the software on the HomePod itself is up to date (Through the Home app). If the software on either the source device (phone, iPad, Mac), or HomePod itself is not current, AirPlay may not work properly. I hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have experienced a similar situation, in which it seems that I had to make sure the device I was using selected it, if I used a different device the last time. If anything technical, I'm not sure.
