Having purchased a pair of Home Pods on on launch day from Best Buy (at the $349 price) I've been a long-time fan of the smart speaker category. It wasn't long before my Google Home and Amazon Echos became paperweights.
This HomePod mini at a $99 price point makes for the perfect stocking stuffer or even primary gift. In fact it does some things even better than the original.
Sound quality is amazing, particular when paired with another for left/right Stereo. Even solo, they produce surprisingly full volume from a small sphere.
Siri still trails the other smart assistance, and sends me to my phone more than I care to admit, but the utility of these are amazing. Adding them to rooms in your house makes your abode that much more accessible.
Also cool is the ability to schedule or add events to play specific music or playlist based on a trigger (Wake up event, bed time chime, sunrise, sunset, etc. ). We used an Eve outlet to turn on Christmas tree, so "Siri, Christmas time" turned it on, dimmed other (Lutron Caseta) lights, and started playing Christmas Music throughout the house.
My wife and I purchased a dozen of these between BB and Apple, mostly as gifts. The responses have been overwhelmingly positive, especially among those who's only other Apple device is an iPhone, thus making this an excellent gateway entry expanding usage on the ecosystem.
The new to iOS 14 feature for HomePod mini has to be the INTERCOM. With it you can use your iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, or other HomePod to communicate with Mini's in other rooms.
"Hey Siri, intercom, We're starting the movie", or "has anyone taken the dogs out?". Your voice is then played either through the HomePods and mini's in every room, specific rooms, or just a floor (based on the room and floor you select upon setup)
Family members then "reply, I did, got it" or whatever. This sure beats the 70s built-in wall units of yesteryear.
Additionally the new Mini sports Thread Mesh Networking protocol, so the more Thread devices you add, the more redundant, and wider your mesh network becomes. We're also starting to see other manufactures support Thread, namely $20 Nanoleaf interactive color light bulbs.
PROS
+compact cute WAF wife-acceptance factor
+surprising sound quality
+cool factor adds tech to every room
+Whole-house (floor, or room) Intercom is great
+Thread Mesh Networking future proofs expanded functionality
+magic price point
+Apple Music and playlist integration
CONS
-only big brother model sports Dolby Atmos
-would love to see a $179 / 2-pack for stereo
CONCLUSION
This product might be one of Apple's more successful sleeper hits, if the Reddit /Homepod forum is to be believed. Countless new users RAVE about sound quality, and then are later ingratiated with other features they didn't know it could do.

I recently got the Apple HomePod mini from Best Buy, and I’m honestly so impressed! I wasn’t expecting a speaker this small to have such great sound, but it completely blew me away. It’s got this rich, full sound that fills the whole room, and the bass is surprisingly powerful for something so compact. Whether I’m playing music, listening to podcasts, or using it for phone calls, the audio is super clear and balanced.
Setup was a breeze—I literally just held my iPhone near it, and it was ready to go in less than five minutes. If you’re already an Apple user, it’s pretty much plug-and-play. I also love how easily it connects to Apple Music and my other devices with AirPlay. If you have other Apple gadgets, this speaker just makes everything work together more smoothly. It’s like having a mini sound system in my living room without needing a bunch of bulky speakers.
Siri on the HomePod mini is surprisingly helpful. I use it to control my smart lights, ask for the weather, set reminders, and send messages. It’s become my little home assistant! The intercom feature is cool too—I can send quick voice messages to other rooms if I ever get another HomePod mini (which I’m definitely considering).
One thing I really appreciate is Apple’s focus on privacy. I like knowing that my requests aren’t being tracked or recorded—everything stays secure. It’s a nice reassurance in a world where privacy concerns are everywhere.
Design-wise, it’s super stylish and fits into any space without standing out too much. It’s compact enough to sit on my shelf or desk without taking up a lot of room, but it still looks sleek and modern. Plus, it comes in a few different colors, which is a nice touch.
Honestly, if you’re thinking about getting a smart speaker, the HomePod mini is a great choice. It’s affordable, sounds amazing, and works seamlessly with everything else in my home. I’m really happy with the purchase! <3

I've been using the HomePod mini for a while now, and it's been an amazing experience. From the moment I set it up, I was impressed by its sleek design and compact size, which fits perfectly into any room decor. The sound quality is exceptional for a speaker its size. It delivers clear, rich audio that fills the room, whether I'm listening to music, podcasts, or audiobooks. The integration with Apple's ecosystem is seamless. I can easily control my smart home devices, ask Siri for updates on the weather or my schedule, and even send messages, all through voice commands. The Intercom feature has been particularly useful; it allows me to communicate with family members in other rooms without having to shout up or down the stairs. Moreover, the HomePod mini’s ability to recognize different voices and provide personalized responses is a game-changer.

Incredibly compact and very well built! Well worth the money if you’re looking for a good home assistant and you want to be in the Apple ecosystem.
Pros:
- Sound quality is absolutely amazing for the size. Honestly impressed with how Apple has done this.
- Extremely compact so can be kept very easily on a corner table or desk
- Integrated with Siri and HomeKit so it works great as a digital assistant
- Very easy to set up, takes seconds to connect on an iPhone, compared to the tedious process required to set up an Alexa device
Cons:
- On the expensive side compared to an Alexa or Google device (sound quality makes up for it though, miles better than the other two)
- Space Grey model comes with a black body and black cable but a white power adapter. Looks a little odd and not very aesthetically pleasing

The HomePod mini is a fantastic speaker for its tiny size. It’s packed with features like controlling your smart home, playing music, and Apple’s smart assistant Siri. It’s super easy to use - just say “Hey Siri,” and your request is instantly fulfilled. It even has a built-in temperature and humidity sensor! You can control your smart home by asking for the temperature in the room, turning on lights, smart plugs, and even running scenes. It’s a Thread and Matter hub, so it can connect to any devices labeled “Works with HomeKit” or “Matter”. It works seamlessly with the Apple Ecosystem - you can send texts, receive and make calls, make reminders, check your calendar, and more. The HomePod mini is a real powerhouse for its small size, but it’s a bit pricey compared to other options.

I’ve been using the Apple HomePod mini for a while now, and honestly, I’m pretty impressed. I mainly got it because I’m already using an iPhone and a MacBook, so I figured it would just fit in—and it really does.
First off, the design is super clean and compact. It doesn’t take up much space, and it looks great on my desk. Setup was a breeze—just brought my iPhone near it, followed a few prompts, and it was ready to go in like a minute.
Sound-wise, it’s way better than I expected from something this small. The audio is clear, voices sound crisp, and there’s even a bit of bass. It’s perfect for playing music while I work or relax. It won't blow you away like a big speaker system, but for everyday use, it more than does the job.
What I really like is how well it works with Siri and my other Apple stuff. I can tell it to set reminders, send texts, or control my lights, and it’s super responsive. I’ve even started using the Intercom feature to send messages to my family around the house—it’s actually pretty handy.
The only thing that bugs me a bit is that it’s kind of limited if you’re not using Apple Music. I use Spotify, and while I can play music through AirPlay, it’s not as smooth as just asking Siri to play something.
Overall, I’d say if you’re already in the Apple ecosystem, the HomePod mini is a great little speaker. It’s stylish, sounds good, and makes daily tasks easier. I’d definitely recommend it.

This is an absolutely wonderful and surprisingly powerful little speaker! It’s also absolutely packed with awesome features and it works so effortlessly and seamlessly with any Apple device. Setup literally takes less than 2 minutes; just hold your device near it and it’ll automatically register it. It also has the ability to control your entire smart home with Siri, as well as the ability to do all other features Siri can do. I absolutely love the cool colors they come in, and I also love that you can pair two of these together in one room to make a set of stereo speakers. It’s roughly the size of a softball, but it has the power and sound of a speaker triple it’s size. It also has 360° audio as well as the ability to play music in spatial audio from Apple Music. And the price of it makes it an absolute bargain, making it very easy to have one for the entire family in each of their bedrooms, which also allows you to fully utilize the intercom function of HomePods, which is a super cool feature that works exactly like it sounds, acting as intercoms throughout the whole house to each speaker or to only certain speakers you choose, and you’re able to use this feature from your phone to communicate with someone at home on their HomePod. These are the absolute coolest smart speakers that also offer excellent sound quality and beautiful aesthetics and work flawlessly with Apple products, so it’s especially great for those who already have and own Apple products, but it’s also great for those without any Apple products as well.

I bought a HomePod mini for each of my kids’ bedrooms, and they absolutely love them. The sound quality is way better than I expected for the size — clear, rich, and just right for music, audiobooks, and even sleep sounds at night.
Setup was super easy with my iPhone, and now the kids use Siri to play their favorite songs, ask questions, or set alarms for school. It’s become part of their daily routine.
I also like that I can use Intercom from my phone to call them to dinner — no more yelling upstairs! Plus, everything is safe and controlled through my Apple ID and Home app.
If you’re in the Apple ecosystem and want something kid-friendly that still sounds amazing, the HomePod mini is a great choice. Compact, stylish, and very family-friendly.

The product has completely exceeded my expectations. The sound quality is crisp, clear, and fills the room despite its compact size. Setup was a breeze, and the sleek, modern design blends perfectly with my home decor. I also love the smart features, which make controlling my music and other devices incredibly convenient. It’s an excellent value for the price and a must-have for anyone looking for high-quality audio in a stylish package. Highly recommended!

I recently upgraded my bedroom entertainment and grabbed a HomePod mini to seal the deal, and Apple—being Apple—always impresses. For a smart speaker the size of an actual apple, it sounds absolutely impeccable. I can’t stress it enough: I don’t use it often to blast music, but when I do, it gets me every time. It’s absolutely amazing.
I have it on a small dresser, and when I’m playing something, you can place your hand on the dresser and feel the bass. I can’t stress enough how amazing this little thing is for its small and compact size. The Handoff feature feels like magic every time. Whenever someone asks me about it, I show them by playing some music on my iPhone and then tapping the top of my iPhone to the HomePod, and it always impresses all my friends.
It’s also super useful aside from impressing people. No more fiddling around with Bluetooth connections in Control Center—all I need to do is touch the HomePod with my phone, and that’s it. Music will continue playing from it.
And that’s not all. There’s also an onboard thermometer and humidity sensor, so I can ask Siri what the temperature or humidity is inside my room. It also sends the information to the Apple Home app, so you can check the temperature inside your rooms wherever you are.
There’s still more it can do when set up with other HomeKit accessories. For example, I also have an Apple HomeKit smart light switch, and I have that and the HomePod set up in my room in the Home app. I can simply say, “Hey Siri, turn on/off the light,” and it knows what room it’s registered to in the Home app and which specific HomePod you’re talking to. It turns the lights on or off in my room just from me asking. I don’t need to be more specific.
And that’s not all. When set up with multiple iCloud accounts that have “Hey Siri” enabled, it can differentiate between voices and provide each person with their own notifications and phone calls. All you need to do is say, “Hey Siri, what notifications do I have?” From there, it recognizes who you are and tells you only your notifications. If someone else asks, it will tell them theirs.
With multiple HomePods in different rooms, they can also function as an intercom system in your own home. I mean, you will never find anything else that beats that for the price. This thing is absolutely amazing. If you don’t have one already, you’re missing out. I would absolutely, 110%, recommend this to anyone.

I recently purchased another Apple HomePod mini, and it's been a fantastic addition to my home. The sound quality is impressive for such a compact device, filling the room with rich, clear audio. Setting it up was a breeze, and it integrates seamlessly with all my Apple devices. The Siri functionality makes controlling my smart home and playing music effortless. Its sleek design also fits perfectly with my home decor. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enhance their audio experience and smart home setup!

Very easy to setup, looks great on display, sound quality is also amazing, easily pairs with Apple Music and iTunes, just wish it could play sound automations off my phone, I have a NFC setup and have custom sound bytes that play when I scan them and hoped that the automations would play off them as well but sadly it doesn’t, I hope down the road they add it in a update, but besides that I also wish you could play SoundCloud and YouTube off of it but you can’t do that as well which again are all minor things but would be nice down the road in a possible update.

Great sound for a desktop setup, Siri is really handy to have on command without having to pick up your iPhone while working.
The lights on the top of the speaker are helpful to know if your command was heard, which it almost always is even if you whisper. 4 months free Music and Apple TV are a plus. Setup is easy, all you need to do is put your iPhone right on top of the speaker and follow the directions.

Improvement from the Google mini to Apple HomePod mini.
It has better sound and packs a decent punch. While I don’t really like I lost my YouTube music from switching platforms, I can mitigate that by redirecting a YouTube video to the HomePod.
I do WISH that Siri was smarter. She compared to Google assistant is farther away in terms of “assisting” than Google.
The design is good and non intrusive. It’s a bit bigger than my Google home mini and about the size of a medium to large lemon.
Another wish from Apple is that their algorithm (?) is smarter on Apple Music. I keep getting music I don’t typically listen to or enjoy. Which was something Google got right as well.
I am hoping we’ll see Spotify on the HomePod mini soon.
The cable comes attach and uses USB- type C to power itself. It comes with the power brick as well.
One thing to add is while the set up for the HomePod is pretty quick, it can be a challenge to get the first initial pop up to well ..pop up.
Do NOT get this if you have anything other than Apple product with you. It’s just not worth it and it won’t set up without a phone or iPad. If you’re well into the ecosystem, I’d say why not.
Overall I do like my new HomePod mini, it has mainly the basics down and I like the improved sound. I think it’s a little overprice at $99. I think it should be either $90 or $85
Oh and too add, Bestbuy handled my item well and I was able to pick it up quick. So an added star for them.

I love using the home pod mini with Apple TV! I have wanted a pair of these to use as surround sound for my tv for the longest time…now that I have them I have had zero issues compared to my using the 5th generation echo dots as surround sound speakers that fairly frequently disconnected or had to be reset for some reason. Using Siri though is a little hit and miss compared to Alexa when it comes to responding to queries. Honestly though I would still pick the home pod mini over the Alexa dots if I had to choose. The sound quality is also fuller and crisp! The ability to transfer music to and from with just a tap of your iPhone 11 or newer is sweet! Keep in mind though that unless you have an Apple TV the HomePods/minis will not work with a fire tv/chrome stick for surround sound. Turns out the mini fits an old echo dot puck outlet holder too haha.

As I wrote in my other review about my second HomePod.. these are awesome and I should add they are awesome when they come in pairs! One in my bathroom and one in my room. I can wake up in my room, gather the clothes I want for my shower, maybe play some video games before my shower, then go take my shower and do my morning routine. All while listening to the same music and not having to touch my phone at all. Only gripe I have is that it plays the clean version of songs whenever I ask through “Hey Siri”

Packs a lot of sound for an small speaker love the seamless compatibly with my apple devices, I can listen to podcasts or music, Youre not hindered to the HomePod you can still browse and use other apps like tiktok or something on your phone while your music plays on your HomePod only issue which I believe should be fixed with an update, is that it gets hung up sometimes when transitioning between the device speaker and HomePod when I’m using an app like Apple Music or pandora, have not used any HomeKit features as of yet; I would say if you can, get two speakers it takes up the whole room well worth it

This HomePod Mini is perfect for my small office. I have the Razer Nommo Chroma speakers but connectivity to multiple machines has been a pain. That’s where this little beauty comes in. Seamless transfer of my music from listening in the car to coming home by hovering my phone over it. I have less reliance on Bluetooth, which in a room of 4 computers, two tablets, a wifi station and Wireless headsets it’s definitely needed as I was getting a lot of interference. Siri can hear me even when the music is loud and I like the ambient noises that can play any time. I look forward to getting another so I can put them in stereo mode! As it is, the sound quality is amazing with decent bass!

Great speaker. I would have given it a 4.5 if I could have because it isn’t wireless. That being said, I needed a small speaker with quality sound for my Peloton workouts. The sound quality on the Peloton isn’t great and the sound from the HomePod mini is a definite upgrade. I didn’t want a large portable speaker and this was a perfect fit. Apple states you can pair the speakers to create left and right channels. I just may do that...

I have enjoyed this product. The volume is perfect for the size of my room. The only thing that I am still learning is to have it automatically play from my phone instead of whatever it is programmed to. But that will be easy to figure out once I sit down and take the time to look at my seetings.
