I found it comparable to the Sonos 3. Haven't played with it too much yet but it's pretty nice so far. Siri works for what I need it to do. I like Apple products, if you don't like Apple, there is no convincing.

I own all three. Siri may not be as complex as Alexa, but it has the virtue of actually working ... and with the HomePod its voice pickup is phenomenal. Why buy it? Because you are already invested in the Apple ecosystem and want a superior way to listen to your music. Other than that.. no reason. sorry, did you really have a question or just want to lay out some Hate ?
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There are some reasonable points here but also some mistakes. Currently, the HomePod is only $100 more expensive than the Sonos Play 1, not twice as much. This has probably changed since you posed the question. The sound quality is more than just a little better in my opinion. The adaptive microphone array does a great job at accommodating the acoustics in different rooms. Siri IS comparably junk compared to other assistants. You can still playback any other third party source that you want through the AirPlay feature. You just can't control it from the HomePod. It's way easier to set up and use the HomePod. The Sonos Play 1 requires you to connect it via ethernet to a router (for initial setup) even if you are going to then use it wirelessly after the initial setup. I lived in a building where the wifi was provided by my property management company and I couldn't physically access the networking gear to set up my Play 1. Sonos was unable to help at all because their workaround method doesn't actually work. This rendered it unusable for the rest of the time I lived at that complex. Sonos is a much more restricted content environment. There is no bluetooth support in the Play 1. You can only connect via wifi using the Sonos app. You can only use services that are directly supported in the Sonos app. If your wifi fails, so does your music. The Sonos app is terrible and for some reason they stopped supporting Audible for 2 years. I definitely wasn't happy to shell out $250 for a HomePod but I got so sick of the issues and limitations of the Sonos Play 1 that it actually felt worth it. Plus it doubles as a sound bar with my Apple TV. This is not possible at all with the Sonos Play 1.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.First of all, I have heard Sonos One, and while the sound quality is impressive, it doesn't have near the volume of HomePod. Not sure why you say lacking with Siri. This speaker is certainly meant to be utilized with Apple Music, which we use extensively. Once it is setup, all controls can be handled by voice, and the phone doesnt need to be anywhere near the HomePod
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Try it and you will realise that you can have truly amazing sound from your iPhone music library. It’s the perfect companion to an Apple Music subscription. Not sure why some people want to be anti-Apple but their loss as far as this is concerned. Even better than Airpods.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Wrong, I have a complete Sonos one system (now for sale) its not even in the same universe. You buy this speaker if you want fantastic sound. (see ALL the audiophile reviews not some kid who knows zip) and if you are an Apple person. If you like Android google ETC. its ok stay with them. Or Alexa. But do enjoy the lack of an privacy its readily noted all over the net.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Good question. I'm an Apple fan and find no reason to buy this. Even at the sale price $250, it is too limiting. I need to have flexibility with my streaming music and not just be tied down to Apple. Plus, the Sonos Play 5 (while more expensive) has better and bigger sound. So, IF you are only an Apple Music user and will never change, this is for you. The sound is quite good and the price at $250 is excellent. AirPlay is another question. Many find it too unstable.
