• You never need a new contract if you pay full price for the device. I've paid full price for the last two iphones and simply added them to my Verizon service with no contracts.

• You don’t need a new contract. Nevertheless you would have to buy one to get the advertised price. Already have a contract? No problem. Just extend it two years. Or pay full price. Your choice.

• To take advantage of the great price with contract. This is a different Ipad so you'll need a new contract and cancall the old one.
