Q: QuestionThinking of purchasing this as a gift for someone who is now using iPad Mini 4. They have not upgraded due to removal of the home button (elderly + hand issues). How difficult/what's new since the iPad Mini 4? Thank You for help, not tech saavy.

• A:Answer You definitely want to upgrade to the newest iPad mini. Not only for its features, but for security purposes. You can upgrade to the most recent iOS version and have peace of mind that your data is safe/secure. As for features, it’s still portable and user friendly. Though there’s no longer a physical home button, there’s a button at the top that has a fingerprint sensor or you can press the button to enter a passcode. You can also purchase an Apple Pencil, which can be used for writing notes or as a stylus (depending on what you’re looking for) Without knowing specific hand issues, it’s still small and has a bigger screen than the mini 4. The screen is brighter and the device is super fast. I hope this helps! If size doesn’t matter, the newest iPad can also serve basic needs. Just not very portable. Good luck!

• A:Answer A: The iPad Mini 7 (2024 release) supports eSIM on cellular models, in addition to a physical nano-SIM. Earlier models like the iPad Mini 4 did not support eSIM; Apple introduced eSIM in iPads around 2018 (with the iPad Pro 3rd gen, iPad Air 3, and iPad mini 5 cellular versions). So, yes — if you’re getting a cellular version of the Mini 7, it has eSIM capability.

• A:Answer It came unlocked, but you can add a fingerprint on it. It does transfer a lot of stuff too. When you get it from your old iPad just not everything.
