I didn't pay in store for activation, just tax. It would depend on your carrier.

Please try again later.Activation fee are assessed by the carrier, we have sprint and the activation fee was 45.00, however sometimes if you have been a long term customer you can call the carrier and they MAY wave the activation fee. Contact your carrier and they can give you the cost.
