Call the customer service to find out when the plan is paid for or wait till you receive a text message asking you to renew but I do not think you have to keep a plan with Straight Talk , I believe this is a prepaid plan , a subsidiary of T-Mobile but if you decline to renew then you may not be able to use that phone so to be on the safe side , call the customer service first then ask to unlock the phone and see if there is a certain period required till you can get the phone unlocked
