A:Answer If you purchase it for the full retail price, you have no contract and can change carriers or cancel service without any additional money owed. If you purchase with the installment plan through the carrier, you have a 2 year commitment until the price of the phone is completely paid for.
IE: Have it on monthly payment plan for 2 years and have completed 6 months of payments at $50 a month (to use easy round numbers), you would owe the remaining balance to them. Total phone price is $1199 and in 6 months you have paid $300 you would owe the remaining $899 to have the phone paid off and be able to transfer it to other carriers or cancel line without owing remaining balance (and going to collections if unpaid).
