I chose to update the NON Apple software, Like MS Office and Quicken,  to M2 Supported prior to moving but put both my old iMac and the Mac Mini on the same WiFi network to move my contacts, Music, and photo files as Exports from each. Example for Contacts: Open Contacts on the Old computer. See Screen Shot below

Yes. Transfer from another Mac. It's under settings if already up and running or will ask during setup for time machine backup or transfer data from another Mac.
