You do have configuration options, I myself bought the base core m3 and 8gb or ram. It does light work very easily and when you need to do power intensive tasks, it delivers, albeit a small lag. As a programer, it does everything I need it to do and more. If you're wanting to do heavy intensive graphic or editing, I would opt for a higher option for the extra power. But if you're looking for a small portable laptop, the MacBook is very good. I even like it more than my MacBook Pro.
