- Answer No. The 2017 models don't use the M5 chip. They will have an i5 chip in them.

- Answer Congratulations on your college acceptance . Now def this one as the i5 will barely be fast enough to load web pages. Intel i5(2017) were notorious for getting so hot you could burn your legs. Honestly your money is best spent on the Black Friday $749 MacBook Air m4 16gb , cheaper and faster. A no brainer.

QuestionCan this run iMovies and Lightroom at a reasonable speed? I have a powerful imac at home, but just need something to use (lightroom photos, imovie etc) while on plane rides to kill time.
