From my understanding, the difference in the open box model and a refurbished model is that the open box models were all returned to the store within the designated time period allotted for returns which varies depending on the situation. So someone might have opened it and tried it out but decided it wasn’t for them and returned it. So those would be basically brand new and they are treated as such in apple’s eyes as you get the same warranty and the ability to purchase AppleCare for your laptop as well. They come in three different types- excellent condition, fair condition, and good condition. That’s pretty self explanatory as to the conditions they were returned in and all were inspected by the employees and are all guaranteed to be in good working condition with the cosmetic condition varying based upon the indicated description listed above. Refurbished models from my understanding are machines that have been taken in on trade or something similar. So usually they have seen a lot more use, they will have varying degrees of condition, and the employees will have reset them to factory settings and whatnot. They are essentially used laptops and some may have had issues requiring a level of repair so they will do that and then resell them once they have been fixed. These usually are NOT treated as if they are new products as far as the warranty and AppleCare are concerned. Hope this helps :)
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Open box usually means just the seal. Refurbished means used and fixed to be like new.
