I use an Anker brand usb hub that’s slim and light. It gives me 4 USB ports. I’m using the Apple USB-C to USB-A adapter with this and I haven’t had any issues with connectivity.

I use a CalDigit Thunderbolt 3 Docking Station that has connections for dual 4K@60Hz monitors, multiple USB devices and network. Thunderbolt 3 is also cross-compatible with newer Windows 10 laptops (look for the Thunderbolt 3 USB C port) so if work gives you a Windows laptop - you can use your work stuff with your personal stuff (or vice versa.) Thunderbolt 3 docking stations can also charge your macbook - which is awesome! You can keep your charger in your bag for when you're traveling + save wear and tear on it. This alone makes it totally worth it to have a dock. The hub also supports high-end NKRO Mechanical keyboards via the USB slots. ( Note the cheap USB3 hub will likely do that as well. )
