“Is a person better off buying the MacBook Pro on sale $800.00 off listed price, or buying a desk top computer ? I understand about the mobility of a laptop, but do you get more computer for the money going with a desk top model verses the laptop ?”

I have used my macbook pro for my only computer for over a decade. It's dependable and reliable above & beyond a desktop AND portable. Nothing better.

In your case if your end goal is to maximize the use of the hardware you are buying and you know it will be used at home only then a desktop would be best with some gaming stations or other accessories attached to it, like a sub woofer with surround sound system. If you like to get a feel of the variety of products that are out there and have the capacity to spend the extra dollars then you can try buying the pricier models of laptops. I had the same thought in my mind when I bought this mac book pro for 2000+ dollars. I could have easily bought three high end laptops in the same amount. But again I use an Iphone and wanted to try out the apple laptop and see its benefits of data sync and other features.
