“Can i buy an unlocked apple phone to replace my i5 and have my AT&T service carrier activate it without renewing my contract? Have been using AT&T for a few years but dont want to get into contract. Thanks Darrell”

Darrell, the new phone requires a new style SIM card. You will need to go to ATT and request a new SIM. There may be a small fee for the new card but will continue to be on the same plan without a required upgrade.
