I was happily surprised to learn that the remote can turn off all the components in my system at once, so it'll turn off a TV, receiver and Apple TV at the same time.

If you are replacing the old black remote - when you pair the new one, it will inherit all the setup from the original. So if your sound bar turned off and on with the black remote, it will turn off and on with the new one. If you are talking about a whole new setup - it depends a lot on how you set up the sound bar. Most soundbars that are CEC or pass through HDMI will power off and on with no problems. If you have a soundbar that is fed by audio cables (red and white cables) or digital (a single fiber optic cable), you'll have to teach the Siri remote the power on / off and volume codes. Just Google Apple support for instructions. I was able to make an ancient Bose system work by teaching the Apple TV remote.
