“I do not have a 4K TV and never owned an apple TV. I want to make sure I get one that can run high performance apps such as YouTube. Am I wasting my money on this one since I don't have a 4K TV? should I consider a different generation of Apple TV?”

4k tv and 4k hd appletv combo is the way to go . if one of the two ia not 4k, there will be subtle differences in both audio and video
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I own both the Apple TV 4th generation (HD) and the 4K. I’ve experienced many streaming issues with the 4K model. My internet connection is strong but the streaming on this device is extremely poor. I went back to my old version (HD), same room, and worked great with no issues. The only good thing about the 4K version is the remote. If you don’t own a 4K TV, I would save the money and frustration and just go with the HD version. Hope this helps.
