I had the same issue except I wanted to stream AMC + on my Samsung TV through my IPhone to watch the walking dead. My Samsung model does not have the Apple smart cast feature so it wouldn’t cast. I decided to buy an Apple TV so it works now because your casting to the Apple TV which is connected to your TV. The biggest decision is it worth the $200 cost to have this feature.

Yes. You need 2 things: 1) an HDMI cord to connect to your Apple T and 2) Wi-Fi availability to connect your Mac to the Apple .
