“Hi my current set up is a Samsung q9 2018 and a sony HT-ST5000 I'm deciding between this machine or a 4k player. will this device be similar? and i do prefer to stream as i will not be buying many discs will the Apple TV enhance my audio in any way?”

This device is similar to a smart 4k player as long as you do not take disc usage into account. I would probably recommend this to you if you have other apple products because the apple ecosystem greatly enhances the connectivity between devices. You can easily stream your Mac/iphone/ipad onto the apple tv. Also, the apple tv has a feature called the tv app which allows you to put all of your tv shows into one place no matter what the streaming service is.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I don't know if it would enhance anything. Apple TV 4k supports Dolby AC-3 and E-AC-3 but the only output is HDMI. So you would have to go HDMI from Apple TV to your receiver then from your receiver to your tv.
